BUYING A FIREARM FROM AN INDIVIDUAL, OR SELLING A FIREARM TO AN INDIVIDUAL, FACE TO FACE
Although there are no laws preventing two people from engaging in a personal firearm transaction, there are legal consequences to both the buyer and the seller if certain laws pertaining to the selling, purchasing, or possession of a firearm are broken. The only way to be sure of relieving yourself of that liability is to come to an FFL licensed dealer and do what’s called a FACE TO FACE TRANSFER of the firearm.
This is basically where the seller transfers the firearm to the FFL dealer and the FFL dealer transfers the firearm to the buyer after doing the appropriate paperwork and obtaining a Background Check on the buyer. All parties involved in this type of transaction can be assured that no laws have been violated and everything is on the up and up.
The fee for a Face to Face Transfer is:
Handgun – $40 transfer fee + $10 background check
Long Gun – $40 transfer fee + $10 background check
*This fee can be paid by either the buyer or the seller
